SUMMARY:Profitable Pastures 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Forage Council is proud to announce our upcomi
 ng annual Profitable Pastures 2019.  This years’ theme is:  Pastur
 e Management Above and Below the Ground.  The conference will be held
  in Mount Forest, at the Mount Forest Community Centre, on Tuesday, Ma
 rch 19, 2019.  Additionally, remote locations will be added.  Please
  watch our website for news on these remote locations.  Presentations
  are CEU accredited.\nThis year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Carole Lafr
 eniere. Carole has worked in the public sector with Agriculture and Ag
 ri-Food Canada at the Beef Research Farm in Kapuskasing for 30 years u
 ntil its closure in 2013. At the Experimental Farm, she worked as a Fo
 rage Production and Conservation Research Scientist. Afterwards, she w
 orked at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) as a 
 professor. She developed a forage education program and continued rese
 arch on pasture and silage conservation for five years. She is present
 ly a retired professor from UQAT, but continues to have interest in no
 rthern agricultural development.  \nIn addition to our keynote speake
 r, Christine O’Reilly, OMAFRA Forage and Grazier Specialist will kic
 k off the day with Grazing Cover Crops.  Ken Mitchell, a beef produce
 r from Annan, will share his tips on grazing cover crops. Attendees wi
 ll be treated to the firsthand grazing knowledge from an experienced p
 roducer, the 2019 Mapleseed Beef Pasture Award recipient.  Cedric McL
 eod, Executive Director of the Canadian Forage and Grassland Associati
 on (CFGA), will make a special visit from New Brunswick, to Give the S
 coop on CFGA’s Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Program (AGGP).  And fin
 ally, also joining us from OMAFRA, Jake Monroe, the Soil Fertility Spe
 cialist, will discuss      4 R Stewardship for Forages. \nThe co
 st of this year’s conference is $50, and includes a hot lunch.  Reg
 istration deadline is March 18th, 2019.  Registrations will be accept
 ed at the door, but may not include the hot lunch.  Registration is a
 vailable by phone, or email.  Visa and Mastercard accepted by phone.Â
