Wheat School: Evaluating Seeding Depth After Plant Emergence

It is easy to talk about seeding depth pre-planting but it is even more critical to review planting depth after emergence. It is no different than any other business process. PLAN - EXECUTE - REVIEW - IMPROVE - REPEAT THE CYCLE.The stand above ground tells only part of the story though. You also need to consider and observe what the plants are showing you below the soil as well.Peter Johnson does a great job in the below…See More

RealAgriculture.com replied to Joe Dales's discussion Prepare for the Food Inc. Onslaught....Movie to be broadcast on PBS and online. What can be done to tell agriculture's side of the story?
"It has nothing to with having something to hide. It has everything to do with the fact the movie does not represent the realities of what is happening on 99% of the farms in North America."

McCain trialing multi-species cover crop blend for rotation in the Canadian potato provinces

Soil organic matter has become a popular topic of discussion in the past year. In Ontario, a report from late 2016 indicated soil organic matter (SOM) levels in many parts of the province are at 15-year lows, coinciding with increasing interest in the use of cover crops, reduced- or no-till management and longer rotations in the past three to five years. On Prince Edward Island (PEI), the issue of low soil organic matter levels is also a concern. During the 2018 International Potato Technology Expo this past February, soil health was one of the topics for presentation and discussions, as much of a concern among industry stakeholders as it is for growers.
