Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Welcomes Three to Board of Directors in January

Three nominees have been acclaimed to the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) Board of Directors following the close of nominations today. Jim Hale of Lancer and Gerrid Gust of Davidson will join the Board of Directors in January. Shaun Dyrland of Kyle will continue into his third three-year term on the Board. Winston van Staveren, SPG Board Chair, says, “We are excited to welcome our new Directors, Jim and Gerrid, to the Board, where they will help shape SPG’s strategic direction. We are also pleased to have Shaun returning for another term. Each of these individuals brings valuable experience and knowledge to our Board.” SPG had called for nominations for three positions on the Board of Directors and received three nominations. As such, the candidates will be acclaimed. Trent Richards will depart the Board in January, having served three consecutive three-year terms and reached his maximum term limit. Pea crop nearly harvested in Northwest

Just like in East- and West-Central regions, harvest is 63 per cent complete in the Northwest. This is well ahead of the five-year average of 45 per cent and 10-year average of 38 per cent. Harvest has wrapped up for fall cereal, mustard and lentil crops in the northwest. Nearly all peas have been harvested as 98 per cent have been combined. Spring wheat leads spring cereals in harvest progress with 78 per cent, with barley closely trailing at 74 per cent. Oats are making steady progress as 69 per cent of crops are off. Finally, 58 per cent of flax is in the bin while 36 per cent of canola has been harvested. The area around North Battleford received the most rainfall in the northwest with 39 mm, followed by Maidstone area with 36 mm. Meadow Lake, Speers and Rabbit Lake all received 24 mm of precipitation. The rain improved topsoil moisture conditions from last week. Nine per cent gain in West-Central harvest

Harvest progress this past week increased nine per cent to 63 per cent complete in this region, which is the smallest increase in the province this week. Harvest progress is behind the five-year average of 70 per cent, but ahead of the 60 per cent 10-year average. Many producers in this region experienced rain delays which resulted in slowed progress. Harvest has finished for fall cereal and field pea crops and lentils are nearly complete at 99 per cent harvested. Well over half of most cereal crops have been harvested, with barley being the closest to being done as 88 per cent of the crop is off. Triticale follows with 75 per cent harvested and spring wheat is a close third at 74 per cent harvest completed. Seventy-one per cent of durum is in the bin, while 67 per cent of oats have been harvested. CRSB holds its Annual General Meeting celebrating 10 years of beef sustainability progress in Canada

The Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and convention in Calgary, AB this week – celebrating its 10th anniversary of bringing together a diverse community working towards a common vision for continuous improvement in social, economic and environmental aspects of the Canadian beef value chain. With over 100 registered and 95 in attendance, eight new members this year, the CRSB currently has 85 voting members from across the beef value chain and beyond. The event kicked off with a “Harvesting Knowledge” tour included stops at Olds College and Wray Ranch – recipients of the 2023 Environmental Stewardship Award, followed by an evening reception hosted by Chop Steakhouse & Bar. John Deere Settles Foreign Bribery Case with $9.9 Million Agreement

Deere & Company has agreed to pay $9.9 million to settle charges from the Security and Exchange Commission alleging that the company violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits U.S. companies from paying foreign government officials to aid in acquiring business.
