What are everyone's thoughts regarding the new Ontario policy regarding neonic seed treatments?

Are there any other ideas farmers should be doing to help the government to support agriculture and still help improve the bee survival and management?

Hi Dale:

I found this article and found it interesting.  If the paper has merit, the implications would be far reaching.

The paper suggests that there is a link between the bee deaths and aluminum. Are the bee deaths a harbinger to the health of the general population?

'Aluminium is a known neurotoxin affecting behaviour in animal models of aluminium intoxication. Bees, of course, rely heavily on cognitive function in their everyday behaviour and these data raise the intriguing spectre that aluminium-induced cognitive dysfunction may play a role in their population decline – are we looking at bees with Alzheimer's disease?'.

Thanks Joann.

Lots of research needs to be done to understand a complex issue regarding Pollinator health.

Weekly Capital Update: NPPC Recap – November 15, 2024

In its latest weekly report, the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) shared key updates on legislative, regulatory, and industry matters that impact U.S. pork producers. This week’s highlights include a legal victory, updates on supply chain developments, advocacy efforts surrounding Proposition 12, a focus on environmental management, and staff additions to strengthen the NPPC’s capabilities. Here’s a deeper look into each update: 1. Victory in the Ninth Circuit Court The NPPC achieved a significant legal win with a favorable ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court. This decision represents a critical step in protecting producers’ freedom to operate without undue restrictions, allowing for flexibility and regulatory balance that benefits both farmers and consumers. The NPPC sees this ruling as a crucial precedent in defending the industry against challenges that could restrict standard farming practices and increase operational burdens. 2. Pork Producers Deeply Disappointed in Senate Democrats’ Failure to Address California Prop. 12 in 2024 Farm Bill

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) issued the following statement after the unveiling of Senate Democrats’ 2024 Farm Bill text by U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). “Though America’s pork producers appreciate Chairwoman Stabenow’s efforts to publish Farm Bill text, this is simply not a viable bill, as it fails to provide a solution to California Prop. 12,” said NPPC President Lori Stevermer, a pork producer from Easton, Minn. “Pork producers have continually spoken up about the negative impacts of this issue, and it is a shame these conversations were disregarded.” In May, NPPC secured 100 percent of pork producers’ priorities in the House Agriculture Committee-passed bipartisan 2024 Farm Bill. In June, producers once again secured all policy priorities in Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member John Boozman’s 2024 Farm Bill framework. NPPC urges both chambers of Congress to swiftly consider and pa
