The potato industry on Prince Edward Island (PEI) is excited to celebrate the inaugural International Day of Potato. In December 2023, the UN General Assembly proclaimed May 30 as the International Day of Potato. Potatoes are eaten by more than one billion people around the world and are an important food source. On PEI, growers are uniquely aware of the importance of potatoes.
PRPairwise–which launched its first leafy greens blend edited with CRISPR for improved flavour in North America last year–is starting the next phase of commercialization in June 2024. The company has entered into an exclusive product licensing agreement with Bayer to further develop and sell the products at scale.
The Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) has welcomed the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food's (AGRI) recent report, which provides key recommendations aimed at stabilizing rising food prices. FVGC appreciates the Committee efforts and is particularly encouraged by the consistency between the AGRI report and FVGC’s own advocacy and 2024 budget recommendations.
