At a time when food security is top of mind for Canadians, the Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) has reviewed the 2025 federal election platforms to assess how well each party addresses the urgent needs of Canada’s fruit and vegetable sector.
Funding of $5 million has been allocated to the Tree Fruit Climate Resiliency fund, aimed at supporting British Columbia's tree fruit growers in adapting to evolving climate conditions.
Given the pressures and uncertainties facing the agricultural sector, federal, provincial and territorial governments have agreed to extend the AgriStability enrolment deadline from April 30, 2025, to July 31, 2025, for the 2025 program year.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for enforcing Canada's food laws including the Food and Drug Regulations and the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. These regulations apply to a broad range of food products, including fortified foods like the food spread, Vegemite.
