2009 Ontario Young Farmers’ Forum, where the theme is “Driving to Success.”

Hosted by the Junior Farmers’ Association of Ontario (JFAO), the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) and the Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum (CYFF), the one and a half day forum in Toronto on November 22nd and 23rd will focus on farm transition planning and commodity marketing for over 90 participants age 18-40 from across Ontario.

USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for Virginia Disaster Areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that people recovering from Tropical Storm Helene may be eligible for food assistance through USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Approximately 22,858 households in nine counties are estimated to be eligible for this relief to help with grocery expenses.

Cool Bean: Consider planting earlier

Research across the Midwest has shown that early-planted soybean have greater yield potential compared to those planted later. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency in 2023 worked with Science for Success Soybean Specialists across the country and shifted the earliest soybean-planting date in states where data was available.

Trade Deal with Indonesia an Opportunity for Canadian Agriculture

The culmination of trade talks with Indonesia should eventually translate into plenty of opportunity for Canadian agriculture, trade and commodity groups say.
