Event Description

We are excited to let you know about the 2025 AORS Municipal Public Works Trade Show happening in Woodstock, Ontario on June 4-5, 2025 in collaboration with the Oxford County Road Supervisors Association. It is the largest public works trade show in the province! You might be thinking – what does public works have to do with agriculture?

Many of our municipal suppliers are also suppliers in the agricultural sector – including Colvoy Equipment, Brandt Tractor, Charles Jones Industrial, STIHL Canada, Alltrade Equipment, Delta Power Equipment, Stratford Farm Equipment – just to name a small few. The trade show will have over 300 exhibits – both indoor and outdoor – and we expect over 2,000 visitors through over the two days. In addition, we will also be featuring a live battery equipment demonstration area. The best part of this entire trade show is it is FREE to attend! I'd be more than happy to send over a press release if you'd like.

If you have any questions or concerns, I’d be happy to answer any questions. We’d love to feature the show in one of your upcoming editions to let your readers know about this exciting opportunity for them. Have a great day!

Cereals Canada Applauds Signing of Key Trade Agreement with Indonesia

Cereals Canada applauds the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Canada and Indonesia. The agreement will help to promote innovation and growth, benefitting the Canadian cereals industry and strengthening Canada’s position in the Indonesian market. “The conclusion of the CEPA negotiations between Canada and Indonesia marks a significant milestone for Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector,” said Dean Dias, chief executive officer at Cereals Canada. “We applaud the government’s commitment to expanding market access and creating new opportunities for Canadian grain farmers and exporters.” One of the key benefits included in the agreement is a comprehensive provision on agricultural biotechnology, a first for Indonesia in a trade agreement. The agreement also includes a broad tariff elimination for Canadian agricultural exports, including cereals, and sets guidelines for sanitary and phytosanitary regulations and other technical rules of trade.

Managing Lodged Cereal Crops

Lodging is one of the most common issues across the prairies. Growers can use tools such as plant growth hormones (PGRs) or select varieties with good lodging ratings to reduce lodging incidents, however, with the wet conditions and storms, lodging may still occur in some fields. Lodging causes delayed dry down, higher pre-harvest sprouting risks, reduced combining speed and higher disease risks such as FHB. This creates a challenging harvest situation. Types of Lodging in Cereals Before discussing lodging management, let’s take a brief look at the different types of lodging. Lodging occurs when the stems of a crop have completely or partially fallen over from their normal vertical position. There are two types of lodging that occur in cereal crops: ROOT LODGING Root lodging occurs at the crown area (plant part at or near soil surface). The stems are straight and intact, but the plant is leaning from the crown area. It is the most common form of lodging and tends to occur earlier
