Event Description

The FarmSmart Agricultural Conference celebrates its 12th year. FarmSmart is cosponsored by OSCIA, OMAFRA, OAC of the University of Guelph and strongly supported by Ag Business. We look for speakers to address present and emerging technologies and innovations across a range of subjects. Sessions are offered on crop and livestock production, soil and environmental management, business, marketing, and general interest topics.

Participants can select their own program from over 40 topics.

For those attendees in the Certified Crop Advisors (CCA) program there are opportunities to earn Continuing Eduacation Unit (CEU) credits.

USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for Virginia Disaster Areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that people recovering from Tropical Storm Helene may be eligible for food assistance through USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Approximately 22,858 households in nine counties are estimated to be eligible for this relief to help with grocery expenses.

Cool Bean: Consider planting earlier

Research across the Midwest has shown that early-planted soybean have greater yield potential compared to those planted later. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency in 2023 worked with Science for Success Soybean Specialists across the country and shifted the earliest soybean-planting date in states where data was available.
