Event Description

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OFA is conducting this year’s regional meetings in a virtual format. This format is to ensure we protect the health and safety of our staff, directors and members.

OFA regional meetings offer the opportunity to engage in discussions about the issues and priorities impacting the agriculture and food industry, network with local federation directors and fellow members, and support your local agricultural community.

The virtual experience of attending regional meetings will prepare delegates for OFA’s 2020 Annual General Meeting in November that will also be hosted on a virtual platform. Transitioning to a virtual format ensures we protect the health and safety of our staff, directors and members.

The event also includes elections for delegates and alternates to OFA’s Annual General Meeting and Policy Advisory Council (PAC) members. These positions will be representing their respective counties at OFA’s virtual annual meeting on November 23, 2020. These opportunities allow members to get involved in OFA’s work at a provincial level, bringing concerns, suggestions and leadership to provincial discussions.

Please contact your local Member Service Representative (MSR) for more information, including meeting details and election nominations. Find your local Member Service Representative (MSR) at ofa.on.ca/msr.

Food for Thought: From arts to agriculture, James Snyder saw big picture

Many of you may have read that James Snyder passed away suddenly in New Zealand, his second home. You may have no idea who he was, other than his love and involvement with local arts and culture. He truly enjoyed working with so many people who made Chatham-Kent a better place to live. In past columns, I’ve discussed people who have helped guide me, not only as a person, but also in my agriculture career. James Snyder was one of them. James was very proud of his British heritage. During my last visit, he took me through his downtown Chatham apartment, showing me every square foot — each of which had something of value to James. I met James when I started working for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. I was working with Ron Anderson, our agriculture specialist, with whom James worked closely trying to expand
