The network for agriculture in Ontario, Canada

So I know there are a few types of seeders out there. I am looking for some pros and cons about a couple types. Hopefully you can help.

Air seeders

I know these are better for smaller seeds

Can cover a large amount of ground without having to refill.

Planters

Better at precision planting. Better depth control.

Box drill ( are they John Deere specific?)

Can be used for multiple types of seeds.

What other types of seeders are there out there?

What are other pros and cons of these types of seeders above?

Hi Iain,

Seeding technology is a pretty wide topic.

Really depends upon the crop and how many acres you have.

Western Canada has alot of interesting air seeder options - small seed crops and vast acreages.

In Eastern Canada a 12 row corn planter is pretty standard on the larger cash crop farms.

It is farm show season, you might want to check out the major equipment companies and what is new.

Wow thanks for pointing out those video. Some really cool technology these days.

I need to get my hands on some to play with it to know how to use it better. One of these days.

As the grazing season winds down toward fall, Kansas State University veterinarians say cattle producers may want to consider the practice of “creep feeding” to sustain growth in calves. RDAR Boosts Support For Western Crop Innovations With $5 Million Investment

Backed by funding from the federal and provincial governments through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, RDAR is delivering an additional $5.2 million in Western Crop Innovations (WCI) to strengthen feed and forage barley and triticale breeding for Alberta and Western Canadian producers. Welcome to the Saskatchewan Environmental Heatmaps, developed through a partnership between Saskatchewan Pulse Growers and Ukko Agro Inc. These maps provide weather-based insights to support producers and agronomists across Saskatchewan, with a focus on forecasted key environmental and climate conditions. Using data from a 20 km grid of virtual weather stations with hourly inputs (sourced from IBM/The Weather Company), the system generates regularly updated maps that evaluate how recent and forecasted weather conditions influence environmental risk factors. Environmental and climate heatmaps are provided in parallel to support broader agronomic decisions and general crop management under variable weather conditions.
