Director of Operations opportunity - Agriculture

This strategic and tactical role provides leadership to field services and sales with multi-provincial responsibility with an emphasis on operations, sales and service delivery, this role oversees all Districts and related field services, Customer Service and Software sales and support. The Director of Operations is a member of the Executive Team and reports directly to the General Manager.

Operations and Field Services

Direct all aspects of operations, including on-farm services, sales, support and office based customer service.
Oversee field management, specialists, software solutions and support, client service resources, including productivity and performance management, training, health and safety.
Lead operational efficiencies and effectiveness of program and service delivery.
Resolve and respond to inquiries and concerns from customers and others.

Sales

Determine, develop and direct strategic sales methodology and plans with a direct and positive impact to business growth.
Align sales goals and targets with the company’s vision, mission and values.
Generate new business and enhance client retention.
In close cooperation with Marketing & Product Development, introduce new services to enhance customer services and corporate revenues.

Desired Skills & Experience:

Bachelor Degree in Business, Agriculture or similar discipline.
Willing to travel having multi-provincial responsibility.
8-10 years of experience in business development, analysis, marketing, sales in the agricultural industry.
Excellent capabilities in task and people leadership, communication and public relations at a senior level.
Ability to manage financial and administrative aspects of a large division.
Strong strategic, analytical and critical thinking skills, including a thorough understanding of interpretation of business needs and operational solutions.
Works collaboratively across all divisions in a strong team environment.
Bilingualism would also be an asset.

USDA FAS Projects Canada All What Output at 33.7 Million Tonnes

The USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is projecting an increase in Canadian all wheat production this year, although still less than expected by Agriculture Canada. A FAS report Wednesday pegged national all wheat output for 2024 at 33.7 million tonnes. That is up 5.4% on the year but roughly 900,000 below Ag Canada’s new-crop production estimate of just under 34.6 million. The FAS forecast is based on Statistics Canada’s April acreage report – which pegged intended all wheat area at just over 27 million acres – a rebound in yields to the five-year average, and FAS’s own estimate of winter wheat area remaining in the spring. Durum production is seen by FAS at 5.5 million tonnes, a year-over-year increase of 36% but also below the Ag Canada projection of 5.65 million, while spring wheat output is projected at 25.25 million, a 2% increase on the year. Winter wheat production is forecast by FAS at 2.9 million tonnes, which would be down modestly from 3.14 million in 2023.

Funding Available to Manitoba Producers for Livestock Predation Prevention

Manitoba and the federal government have announced $500,000 in funding to help producers in the province protect their livestock from predator attacks. A news release Thursday said the money will go toward assisting producers with the purchase of equipment, livestock guardian dogs, and constructing predator-resistant fencing under the province’s Livestock Predation Prevention Program. Wildlife predation of livestock is a significant problem for Manitoba producers, with over 2,000 livestock lost each year. The Livestock Predation Prevention Program provides two funding streams for producers: Pre-approved Livestock Predation Prevention Equipment and Guardian Dogs will allow eligible applicants to purchase solar foxlights, electronet, fladry and livestock guardian dogs.
