Beetroot juice is natural deicer for snow removal

A southwestern Ontario company is buying truckloads of red beets (not sugar beets) to make a natural deicer called GeoMelt. It seems the freezing point of beetroot juice is very low and at least one GTA snow removal business has agreed to test the mixture by adding it to salt brine.
