Beetroot juice is natural deicer for snow removal

A southwestern Ontario company is buying truckloads of red beets (not sugar beets) to make a natural deicer called GeoMelt. It seems the freezing point of beetroot juice is very low and at least one GTA snow removal business has agreed to test the mixture by adding it to salt brine. If successful this could become an important new industrial application for beets and that could make this crop significantly more rewarding to grow for Ontario farmers. More details in this
