Pork producer input is needed for an industry-wide survey that’s being conducted by AgCareers.com. On behalf of the National Pork Board, AgCareers.com is conducting a Compensation and HR Practices Survey specific to the swine industry. “Our goal is to provide the swine industry with critical data necessary to make sound human resource-related decisions,” AgCareers.com explained.
At that time, more than 17 million birds, mostly in the Fraser Valley, had to be destroyed because of avian flu. This week, another 7 poultry farms in the Fraser Valley east of Vancouver were put under quarantine, after 3 of the farms had confirmed cases of the deadly H5N1 strain, the same strain that's resulted in the culling of hundreds of thousands of birds this year in Alberta and in other parts of the country as well.
Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers Program held their annual convention this week in Saskatoon. Each year two operations from across Canada are chosen for the national title. This year's national event winners are from Saskatchewan and Quebec. Cody Straza and Allison Squires own and operate Upland Organics at Wood Mountain (Saskatchewan).
