Alberta Yield Estimates Tick Mainly Higher; Harvest Advances Well

Alberta major crop yield estimates are mostly improved from two weeks ago, with the harvest advancing past the three-quarter pole. The latest weekly crop report on Friday pegged the average 2025 canola yield in the province at 42.1 bu/acre, up 0.8 bu from two weeks ago, while barley and oats were raised 2.6 and 0.9 bu, respectively, to 72.6 and 76.2 bu/acre. The average expected spring wheat yield was bumped 0.7 bu higher to 54.6 bu/acre. On the other hand, the average pea yield was reduced 0.6 bu to 46.8 bu/acre. With the revisions, the provincial major crops yield index now sits at 25.2% above the 5-year average and 17% above the 10-year average. Today’s provincial yield estimates are mixed compared to the Sept. 17 Statistics Canada crop production report, which put the average Alberta canola yield at 41.5 bu/acre, barley at 68.9 bu, oats at 79.9, and spring wheat at 54.7 bu. The average pea yield was estimated by StatsCan at 40.2 bu. Harvest across the province continued to

Cereals Canada Expands Harvest Assessment Program to Include Eastern Wheat

The 2025 crop year marks a milestone for Cereals Canada, an organization that has been analyzing western wheat quality for over 50 years. For the first time, through a partnership with Grain Farmers of Ontario, the Cereals Canada technical team will analyze the quality of both Western and Eastern wheat classes for its Harvest Assessment Program.?? The expanded program builds on the Winnipeg-based organization’s established reputation as the globally recognized independent expert in Canadian grain quality, processing quality, and milling technology. “Cereals Canada is the trusted source for quality information on Western Canadian wheat, and our technical experts understand the data needed to support our domestic and global markets,” said Dean Dias, chief executive officer at Cereals Canada. “Our partnership with Grain Farmers of Ontario brings that same level of expertise to Eastern Canadian wheat. This united, comprehensive approach will help to strengthen Canada’s global position

Special Market Report - Sept 2025

Canola Outlook May Be Better Than the Recent Negative Sentiment Indicates  There is a great deal of negative sentiment in grain markets these days. This is understandable as prices keep grinding lower, delivery opportunities have all but disappeared for some crops, and Canadian farmers are at the tariff-whims of foreign governments. For canola, specifically, the November futures contract fell over 15% from the mid-June highs, while weakening basis levels added to the drop in bids to farmers.  A natural question many farmers are asking is, ‘Will canola prices continue to move lower or are there reasons to be optimistic about values going forward?’. No one has a perfect crystal ball, but understanding some of the (many) moving parts that affect the canola market can help in making an educated guess on some potential scenarios. And as much as China’s tariffs on Canadian canola seed (as well as oil and meal) is a bearish factor, there are other things impacting values a well.  Over time

Canada Indonesia trade agreement a positive step for soy industry

Soy Canada is very pleased to see Canada and Indonesia formally sign the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CIEPA) yesterday. This formalized trade agreement marks a major step forward for the Canadian agri-food sector, and more specifically the soybean industry, offering both competitive access and stability in what is already a substantial and dynamic market.

For the first time, Cereals Canada will include both Western and Eastern wheat classes in its annual Harvest Assessment Program, thanks to a new partnership with Grain Farmers of Ontario.
