Event Description

Attendees can participate in guided ‘tasting tours’ of the organic garden and can enjoy a corn roast, live music, educational demonstrations and children’s activities such as scavenger hunts and corn husking competitions throughout the day.

This event will feature top Ontario chefs including: Jim Loat from Borealis Grille & Bar; Shea Robinson and Anthony Walsh from Oliver & Bonacini Cafe Grille Waterloo, Sasha Saladziuk and Simon Day from PJ’s Restaurant in the Atrium; and Hendrik Kuiper and Vijay Nair from Hospitality Services at the University of Guelph. These chefs will be preparing mouth watering cuisine for guests to sample, using organic produce from the garden’s seasonal bounty.

Admission to this event is FREE. A $10 Food Passport can be purchased at the door to sample our Chef’s organic fare. (All proceeds go to the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming and Garden2Table; a real food program for children).

The Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming is a 1 hectare learning facility established at the Arboretum of the University of Guelph to complement the academic B. Sc. (Agr) Major in Organic Agriculture. Its mandate is to offer hands-on learning in organic market gardening, urban agriculture, resource conservation, and a suite of other life skills central to food security and safety in a resource- limited era.

Garden2Table is a student run project of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The program aims to provide children with enjoyable education about food, agriculture, and their natural environment - primarily to positively influence their food choices.

During my last visit, he took me through his downtown Chatham apartment, showing me every square foot — each of which had something of value to James.
