Have you aspired to preserve local fruits and vegetables, but don’t know where to start? Have you done some canning, but still would like to learn some tips from the experts? Our facilitator for this course will be Chef Emerie Brine, from Bernardin. In this demonstration you will be able to watch as he prepares canning recipes with asparagus, garlic jellies and frozen fruits. He will provide tips during the preparation of these canning projects. As a bonus, the group will get to sample the recipes prepared. Space is Unlimited!!! USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for Virginia Disaster Areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that people recovering from Tropical Storm Helene may be eligible for food assistance through USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Approximately 22,858 households in nine counties are estimated to be eligible for this relief to help with grocery expenses.

Cool Bean: Consider planting earlier

Research across the Midwest has shown that early-planted soybean have greater yield potential compared to those planted later. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency in 2023 worked with Science for Success Soybean Specialists across the country and shifted the earliest soybean-planting date in states where data was available.
