Event Description

Due to challenges created by extreme weather conditions, there has been a change in the date for the Victoria County Forage Expo.

The Victoria County location will be held on Tuesday, July 23th at Vosbrae Farms, 140 Skyline Rd. in Oakwood, ON. The Perth location at Pendora Dairy Ltd., 6447 Road 164 Monkton, ON will take place on the originally scheduled date of July 9, 2019. Additional address details can be found on our website: http://www.ontarioforagecouncil.com/programs/ontario-forage-expo

This year’s demonstrations will include equipment from the leaders in forage production equipment.  Attendees will not only have the chance to see what’s new for 2019 but will also have the unique opportunity to witness this equipment in head to head field trials! Equipment will include various mowers, conditioners, rakes, tedders, windrow inverters, mergers, harvesters, dump wagons, large round balers, large square balers, small square bale bundlers, bale wrappers and bale grapplers. This event will provide the opportunity for farmers to view the latest technology available to harvest forage quickly with minimal loss and maximum quality.  Ian McDonald and Christine O’Reilly, OMAFRA will be in the field, working with the equipment companies to provide information to farmers and answer questions.  This is important in making decisions on investments which ultimately enhance their farm operations in capacity, minimizing harvest losses, product quality and profitability.

This event is FREE TO THE FARMING COMMUNITY!  Lunch will be available on-site at a nominal fee, and no pre-registration is required.

Trade show, demonstration and sponsorship opportunities are still available for this event.  Spaces are limited and will fill quickly, so don’t hesitate.

Ontario Forage Expo is an excellent opportunity to advertise to a forage focused audience compiled of producers from counties across the province!

War in Middle East causes further stress on U.S. farmers

Corn farmers in the U.S. are bracing for even higher fertilizer prices as conflict in the Middle East impacts the globally traded commodity, according to leaders with the National Corn Growers Association. Corn farmers are approaching a fourth year of negative yields, due to low corn prices and high input costs, including fertilizers. The growers association renewed its call on Congress to legalize year-round, nationwide E-15, a higher blend of ethanol fuel, and for the removal of duties on fertilizers from Morocco. Lesly McNitt, vice president of public policy for National Corn Growers Association, said there is not enough domestically produced fertilizer to meet demand, which means imported fertilizer is vital to farmers. McNitt, speaking during a press conference Wednesday, said duties on phosphate from Morocco and Russia that were put in place in 2020, have “kept phosphate prices high” and caused “availability issues and lack of competitive options for farmers.” A study from th
