Animal Health Canada is reporting significant advancements in the national effort to monitor and control the spread of invasive wild pigs across Canada—a growing concern due to the threat they pose to agriculture, ecosystems, and particularly the risk of transmitting diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF) to domestic swine herds.

Survey finds strong support for North Carolina pork industry

A statewide survey of North Carolina voters shows overwhelmingly support for the pork industry, with 73% saying that hog farming has a positive impact on the state, compared to just 14% who think it has a negative impact. These numbers reflect the significant contributions North Carolina's pork producers makes to the state’s economy and the industry’s vital role in providing safe, affordable food for millions of American families. “When our farmers are attacked by those who want to put us out of business, it’s easy to forget that the vast majority of people stand behind what we do,” said Roy Lee Lindsey, CEO of the North Carolina Pork Council. “It’s important to keep our pulse on how the public feels so we can address the issues that matter most to consumers.” The most important issue to consumers was clear — producing safe and affordable food. Alberta Pork Market Report – Week Ending April 18, 2025

Alberta Pork reports that pricing remains stable in the province, with the Alberta formula-based price at $2.3417/kg. However, producers in Ontario and Quebec continue to face lower prices, with Ontario’s 100% formula base dropping to $2.1440/kg and Quebec’s price now at $1.9768/kg.

Topigs Norsvin Canada Names Mike Shaw as New Managing Director

Topigs Norsvin Canada has announced the appointment of Mike Shaw as its new Managing Director, effective May 1, 2025. Shaw brings extensive experience and leadership to the role, having been with the organization since 2008.
