Farm protests in Europe

I friend notified me of the protesting going on in Europe about the low milk prices paid to farmers. Apparently the issue is nearly a global issue (not so in Canada due to the SM). Here is a link to a photo gallery from the European Milk Board (EMB).
One image that impressed me was not the volume of farm equipment - but the volume of people!
A bigger issue could be not only the low milk prices but really - what is the difference between this and the issue that the pork producers globally are facing now?

I don't know why these europian farmers are protesting about, they have closed market when it comes to import quoters and subsidsed, to the helt. The reason prices are low, the EU dumps their milk on the market. Like they do with canola and everything else they produce. Yet the consumer pays high prices at the shops and high taxes to pay for the farmer to sit on their quarter acre or pour the milk on the fields. They don't give a shit about the price of milk when they are on a quote system and paid to grow nothing, what they are whinging about is the cost of living and want a increase in the subsidy they recieve. If Canada goes down this road your can not call yourself a farmer but a public servant, and the government tells you what you can and can't do on your land.

Wow...makes for an interesting photo for news media consumption....

I think the pork producers need to drive awareness with the consumer to their economic challenges in a positive way....maybe it is free pork bbq sampling and events where we encourage consumers buy pork and local...let them know we create local economic activity as well as the best tasting pork...

I like the positive approach...not sure it will make much a difference in the market or with government though.
