Finally got a chance to put some wheat seed in - and even got to hook my new toy onto the planter.

Take a look - http://www.eHarvest.com/default.aspx?vid=vid_11212008050346069

Did anyone else get wheat planted? Peter Johnson at OMAFRA says there's going to be up to 700K acres -- will we hit that?

Started today until we got rained out around 4:30pm (less than 20% complete). Working around the soys that are left in the field. Maybe move to another farm tomorrow if the rain holds off.
Lots of no-till wheat went into the ground locally this week (including today). Most neighbours should be hitting their target for acres planted.
Just watched the video - interesting set-up. Did you shove the MAP down the same tube as the seed? Could this possibly work for soys also?
Hey Wayne - I put a "y" at the top of the metal seed tube that comes out of the seed boot on the JD 750 drill. One tube drops seed from the box and the air hose blows fert down the other tube. Took me a few acres to get the air pressure right - too much air and you blow seed all over the place - not enough air and the fert hoses plug. Worked perfectly for the last 150 acres, so I'm pretty happy with it. Sure beats overpaying for liquid. I hope to use the cart to deliver starter to the corn planter and soybean seed to the planter - I only use the drill for wheat.

We got everything planted that's harvested. About 75%. The last farm of beans is going to take some time to dry out but if we can get it off we can get the wheat in easily enough.
Here is the video field update on how the crop is doing.

Spring Wheat Harvest Ahead of Expectations; Winter Wheat Planting Behind

US spring wheat harvest progress this past week was ahead of trade expectations, while winter wheat planting was slightly behind. Monday’s USDA crop progress report pegged the American spring wheat harvest at 85% complete as of Sunday, up 15 points on the week. That is also 2 points ahead of the five-year average and topped the average pre-report trade guess by an identical 2 points. Meanwhile, 6% of the winter wheat crop was in the ground as of Sunday, up 4 points from a week earlier and on par with the average but still 2 points behind trade expectations. In the top spring wheat production state of North Dakota, the harvest advanced 18 points from the previous week to reach 79% complete as of Sunday, 2 points ahead of last year and 1 point ahead of average. The Minnesota and Montana harvests were 89% and 91% complete as of Sunday, versus 75% and 77% a week earlier and 86% and 85% on average. Things have almost wrapped up in South Dakota, where 97% of the spring wheat crop was

Manitoba Harvest Passes One-Third Complete

The Manitoba harvest is now more than one-third complete with mostly dry conditions helping to speed progress. Tuesday’s weekly crop report pegged the overall harvest of all crops in the province at 40% done, up from 26% a week earlier. The harvest is the most advanced in the Central Region at 51% complete, followed by the Eastern Region at 47%, the Southwest at 38%, and the Interlake at 34%. Progress is least advanced in the Northwest at 25% complete. The pea harvest is now reported at 98% done, with barley and oats at 76% and 73%, respectively. The spring wheat harvest is 68% done, and canola 30% complete. Spring wheat yield estimates range from 60 to 90 bu/acre, with an average of 70 bu/acre in the Central and Eastern regions. In the north Interlake, spring wheat yields range from 25 to 55 bu/acre, and up to 70 bu/acre in the south Interlake. Oat yield estimates range from 80-180 bu/acre, with generally good bushel weights. Barley yields range from 90 to 115 bu/acre. Canol

Results of the inaugural Canadian Cow-Calf Survey

Insight into the 2023 Canadian Calf Crop The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC), in collaboration with Canfax Research Services and regional representatives, recently took a snapshot of production practices that have been adopted by cow-calf producers across the country, as well as performance measures of their herds.  The inaugural Canadian Cow-Calf Survey collected data from 600 producers across nine provinces on the 2022 breeding season through the 2023 weaned calf crop, as well as reasoning and rationale for some practices.  Survey results will be used to help the BCRC prioritize research and extension strategies funded by the research allocation of the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off to support producers with different types of herds and operations in various regions.
