1 PM – Van Brenk’s Fruit Farm, 31760 Erin Line, Dutton-Dunwich

2 PM – Lavender Sense, Jesper & Pamela Anderson, 28011 Ash Line, Dutton-Dunwich

3 PM – Vertical Tillage Demo across road from Lavender Sense. Equipment provided by Vanden Brink Farm Equip, Sparta, Advantage Equip, Fingal, Great Lakes Ford New Holland, St Thomas 

4 PM – Grain Drying and Handling Facility, Prey Farms 29414 Silver Clay Line, Dutton-Dunwich

5 PM – Solar Panels and Pioneer Test Plots, Jamie & Teena McCaffery 28654 Silver Clay Line, Dutton-Dunwich  

6 PM – Dinner & Speaker at McCaffery farm: “Those Darn Bugs!!” Tracey Baute, OMAFRA Entomologist

USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for Virginia Disaster Areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that people recovering from Tropical Storm Helene may be eligible for food assistance through USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Approximately 22,858 households in nine counties are estimated to be eligible for this relief to help with grocery expenses.

Cool Bean: Consider planting earlier

Research across the Midwest has shown that early-planted soybean have greater yield potential compared to those planted later. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency in 2023 worked with Science for Success Soybean Specialists across the country and shifted the earliest soybean-planting date in states where data was available.
