The Saskatchewan Cattlemen's Association annual district meetings begin next week and will continue through October. CEO Grant McLellan says the meetings provide an opportunity for producers to come out and share their views on the organization and a variety of other issues ranging from the Saskatchewan Marshall Service to increasing the producer check-off. "At our AGM held in January this year there was a motion on the floor to increase the check-off. So we just really want to make sure that we're getting out there to our producers and hearing from them and making sure their informed as to what those dollars go to and what the process looks like." He says an organization that represents somewhere in the neighborhood of 16,000 to 17,000 cattle producers in the province and those producers who pay check off, we want to make sure that we are transparent and responsive to their needs. Vetavision got underway Friday at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. The event which is open to the public wraps up on Saturday and features over 30 live animals. Students organize the event to promote the College and the veterinary profession from large animal vets to small animal vets, radiologists, ophthalmologists, pathologists, rehabilitation experts, and more. The event features 26 student displays plus numerous demonstrations. On Friday, the public had an opportunity to tour the dairy barn and explore the cow walk where they had a birds eye view of the dairy operation. One new event this year is a panel discussion on Saturday involving WCVM graduates and current students. Vetavision runs from 9 am to 9 pm at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st. DES MOINES, Iowa (Sept. 20, 2024) – With harvest upon us and the winter months approaching, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig is reminding propane consumers to top off their propane tanks. With strong supply and prices comparable to the start of last year’s heating season, this is a good time for propane users to ensure their home and livestock barn heating as well as grain drying needs are met. “If you utilize propane to heat your home or livestock barn, or rely on it for grain drying, now is the right time to top off your tanks,” said Secretary Naig “It’s a good time to get prepared for harvest and the colder weather that will be coming.” Data released by the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) on September 18, for the week ending September 13, shows that nationwide propane stocks were at 99.1 million barrels (mb) or 124 days of supply.
