Facilitators: Delma Kennedy and Jillian Craig, OMAFRA

The course is targeted for people interested in, or thinking about, getting started in either sheep or goat production. This basic course will focus on four key components: An overview of sheep and goat farming in Ontario; Production requirements; Processing, marketing and economics; and a local farm tour. The course will be mainly an ‘in class’ session followed by a tour of a working meat sheep farm. The course will be offered by Delma Kennedy, Sheep Specialist and Jillian Craig, Small Ruminant Specialist, with OMAFRA, and hosted by Grey Ag Services. Cost includes USB resource key, hot lunch, farm tour and much more. Time: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Cost: $75 per person. Canada invests in Saskatchewan livestock processing capacity

The Canadian government has announced more than $10 million to support nine agricultural projects in Saskatchewan, including investments in two livestock processing businesses, Prairies Economic Development Canada announced. North 49 Foods Ltd. will receive funding to expand production and develop new export markets, while Prairie Meats Inc. will use its allocation to upgrade facilities to manufacture food for distribution across Saskatchewan and Canada. The funding was announced by Buckley Belanger, secretary of state for rural development, on behalf of Eleanor Olszewski, minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, alongside international trade minister Maninder Sidhu, at an event in Langham, Saskatchewan.
